A love note to those who can't be visible on #TDOV

Trans Day of Visibility was a few days ago and my feed was filled with beautiful humans celebrating their transgender/non-binary identities. I love seeing queer and trans joy, so the celebration of transgender identities is delightful to me!

The Trans Day of Visibility is also bittersweet as we celebrate visibility that was hard-won through the work and hardship of many transgender people, including and especially the work of transgender women of color.

This year felt especially bittersweet with a record number of anti-transgender bills and legislation on the table (Allies, get your google on and email your reps and let them know you don’t support any anti-trans legislation on the bill in your state. Please and thank you!)

I know that, for many trans/non-binary people, being visible isn’t an option right now. So I wanted to write you a quick love note.

Whether you can’t be visible because of your family, work, religion, housing, or other barriers, I want you to know that I see you. You are not less than because you can’t or don’t want to be visible in all the areas of your life. You are trans-enough just as you are right now. You never have to change a thing for your identity to be valid.

Sometimes taking care of our own physical, emotional, and financial safety by not being out is the most authentic thing you can do. You’re doing the best you can. And it’s enough. You’re enough.

Promise.

And just for good measure, here are a few things that brought me joy. I hope they bring you some joy too.
